Our Wellbeing Approach

THE IMPORTANCE OF STUDENT WELLBEING & EDUCATIONAL REENGAGEMENT IS EMPHASISED THROUGHOUT ALL Y SCHOOLS PROGRAMS

We provide intentional wellbeing support which is provided to students by our multidisciplinary team. This team is made up of: psychologists, counsellors, caseworkers/social workers, youth workers and wellbeing program coordinators.

Thrive is the Y’s evidence-based approach to develop flourishing mental wellbeing and self-efficacy in our young people. Based on best practice in trauma-aware education, Thrive brings together key student support strategies, and draws on developmental techniques to empower our young people with ways to regulate their emotions, increase coping skills and develop healthy relationships

Thrive consists of a collection of practices, strategies and activities that build and sustain developmental outcomes in young people, such as:

  • Morning Check-ins
  • Flow of the Day
  • Leading Positive Classrooms framework
  • Use of Common Language
  • Wrap-around support staff model
