Pathways

At Y Schools Queensland, our commitment to each student’s success means providing the support and resources needed for them to achieve their goals.

Whether a student is aiming for a career in a trade, seeking hands-on work experience within an industry of interest, or exploring alternative educational pathways beyond school, our program is designed to support them every step of the way.

We recognize that each student’s journey is unique and that traditional academic pathways aren’t the only route to success. To ensure every student has an equal opportunity for success, our Pathways pillar supports students in accessing non-academic pathways to meeting their future goals and aspirations.

Our holistic approach focuses on helping students identify their strengths, interests, and goals, and then considers their personalised pathway to achieving their aspirations. Through this personalised pathway mapping, students can take the time to explore a variety of possibilities.

Once their pathway has been planned, our dedicated pathways staff support students in engaging in non-academic opportunities, including, but not limited to:

Small Group Experiences

Students engage in supervised projects or activities with peers, in or out of the school, involving 2-3 people, such as temporary work placements or volunteering. These experiences help determine interest or aptitude for more formal industry pathways.

Industry Tasters

Students explore different industries through short-term experiences, helping discover potential career interests.

School-Based Enterprise

Students participate in entrepreneurial projects and activities, that help build confidence, job skills, and provide real-world business experience within the school setting. Examples include working at the school coffee cart or cafe, restoring furniture, and running school fundraising events.

Work Experience

Students gain practical, hands-on experience in a field of interest through job placements, which can lead to permanent job opportunities.

School-Based Apprenticeships/Traineeships

Students combine work and study with structured programs that develop expertise in specific trades or professions.
